As an Armenian immigrant to the U.S, my artistic practice delves into themes of sacred spaces, the intricate symbolism connecting birds and women, and the nuanced relationships between gender, culture, and identity within the context of my heritage. I tackle these with painting, ceramic work, and bookmaking. By embracing a queer look, I examine the intersection of tradition and personal experience, challenging conventional narratives around belonging and self-expression. My work transforms these ideas into a visual language seeking to create connections between the personal and the story, the familiar and the unfamiliar. A number of my work combs through folklore and spoken story, and creates space for color and texture to speak.
